Engelandvaarders 2011
Having noticed a new war memorial being built on his local beach Olly became aware of the story of the Engelandvaarders. This was the story of over 1,700 Dutch men & women who escaped from Nazi occupied Holland to reach England or other allied territories. The memorial on the beach in Suffolk relates to the 32 men who lost their lives trying to reach England by kayak as the Peteri brothers had successfully done in 1941. In mid summer 2011 sponsored by the Peteri family Olly & a team of 5 more made the crossing in memory of the Engelandvaarders.
